MINUTES OF THE
GLOBAL INDEPENDENT BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP

May 12, 2004
(MEETING AT THE HEARTLAND BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE,
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA)

The meeting was called to order by Moderator Dick Webster at 3:25 in the afternoon. Bro. Webster asked Bro. Frank Wood to open the meeting in prayer.

1] The minutes from the previous meeting (held February 24, 2004 in Lancaster, CA) were presented.

Bro. Keith Shumate made the motion to accept the minutes. A second was provided by Bro. Kevin Folger and the vote was unanimous.

2] Bro. Rich Farinella give a report about the Global Baptist Times. The current issue of the Global Baptist Times was not ready in time for this meeting. It was to be out soon. Bro. Farinella reported that the bills are being met by the support that is coming in.

Bro. Bob Stevens asked the question about the money that was raised for a secretary to help with the production of the paper. Bro. Farinella said that a part time secretary has been hired and is being paid for by the increase in support for that purpose.

Bro. Dave Brown asked what the circulation of the paper was. The answer 950 are mailed to pastors and many more are sent out in bundles.

3] Bro. Webster introduced missionaries using the GIBF missions clearinghouse. He stated that the results of an informal meeting were to stay for now with a clearinghouse rather than to go to a “BBF” type missions agency.

Edward and Angela Oster, missionaries to Argentina were introduced. They are being sent out of the Liberty Baptist Church of Lewisville, Texas. Bro. Webster is their sending pastor. They had been on deputation for 2 weeks.

Angela gave her testimony first. She was raised in a preacher’s home. (Bro. Webster is her father.) She is thankful for her Christian home. She was saved at 16 in a revival meeting. Her father led her to the Lord. In camp that year she felt called to the mission field. She met her husband in college, who surrendered to the field of Argentina. Her father added that she was a great Christian in their church after her salvation.

Edward gave his testimony next. He also was raised in a preacher’s home – in Minot, North Dakota. He was saved at 13 years of age in Minnesota. He surrendered to preach at a revival at age 14. He attended PCBBC and moved to Heartland Baptist Bible College. He surrendered at a missions conference at Southwest Baptist Church.

Bro. Webster added that other missionaries are scheduled to be introduced at the Oregon meeting.

4] Bro. Webster took nominations for the officers of the GIBF.

For Moderator: Bro. Webster made it clear he does not desire to continue as moderator so that he may work on the missions clearinghouse. Kevin Folger was nominated. Others were nominated but declined the nomination. A motion to close the nomination was made by Bro Lydick. A second was made by Bro. Bruce Turner. The vote was unanimous.

For Vice-Moderator: Dennis Fountain was nominated. Another was nominated but declined the nomination. A motion to close the nomination was made by Bro. Sam Davison. The 2nd was made by Bro. T.J. Smith. The vote was unanimous.

For Secretary: Marshall Stevens was nominated. A motion to close the nomination was made by Bro. Lydick. Bro. Keith Shumate seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.

5] A need to pick 6 advisory board members for the missions agency was presented. The vote on the nominations will be held at the next GIBF meeting. The term would be for 2 years. The following men were nominated:

1. Bob Stevens
2. Russ Tyree
3. Keith Shumate
4. Scott Naill
5. Steve Clayton
6. Delbert McLaughlin
7. Mario Monnette
8. Charles Trull.
*9. Ken Walters.

A motion to leave this nomination open for 1 month was made by Bro. Frank Wood. Bro. Dennis Fountain provided a second for the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

*An additional nomination came in from Bro. Dave Lydick. He nominated Bro. Ken Walters.

6] Bro. Webster announced that there was no more business. Bro. Craig Houston made a motion to dismiss the meeting. A second was made by Bro. T.J. Smith. The meeting dismissed in prayer by Bro. Terry Randolp at 3:59 p.m.
