MINUTES OF THE
GLOBAL INDEPENDENT BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP
SEPTEMBER 16, 2003
(MEETING AT THE EGLISE BIBLIQUE BAPTISTE METROPOLITAINE SUD, SAINT-HUBERT,
QC)
The meeting was called to order by Moderator Dick Webster
The minutes from 2 previous meetings were presented.
1] From February 18, 2003:
Bro. Eddie Egbert made the motion to accept the minutes. A second
was provided by Bro. Keith Shumate and the vote was unanimous.
2] From May 13, 2003:
The motion to accept these minutes was made by Bro. Pete Montoro.
A second to that motion was made by Bro. Terry Randolph. The vote
was unanimous.
Bro. Webster had Bro. Rich Farinella give a report about the Global
Baptist Times. Bro. Farinella reported that the current issue
of the paper was dedicated to his wife’s influence. He explained
how the paper could be subscribed to.
Next, Bro. Webster told of a request he had in hand concerning
The GIBF meeting to be held in September of 2006. The Southside
Baptist Tabernacle of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Pastor Jimmy Walker
had submitted this request in writing to Bro. Webster.
The motion to accept this invitation was made by Bro. T.J. Smith.
The second came from Bro. Rich Farinella. The vote was unanimous.
Bro. Dennis Fountain presented a proposed set of guidelines for
hosting a GIBF meeting. He emphasized that these would be guidelines
and not the law of the Medes and Persians. Time was given for the
participants to read the proposal. It was noted that the proposed
guideline numbered 3 had a blank in it. The minimum seating capacity
would have to be decided upon. A discussion of the word “approval”
in the proposed guideline numbered 5 was held. After some discussion,
it was decided to leave it in the guideline for now. Also, it was
the consensus that the guidelines remain separated from Heartland
Baptist Bible college references.
The motion to adopt these guidelines was made by Bro. Steve Clayton.
The 2nd was made by Bro. T.J. Smith. The vote was unanimous. (The
guidelines are attached at the end of these notes.)
Bro. Webster gave an update on the missions work of the GIBF. The
GIBF is already handling the funds for 2 missionaries. The insurance
is in place and ready. The minimum number of missionaries must be
met first. That minimum is three families. The rates are reasonable
and it is through Aetna. The suggestion was made that a brochure
should be made that would promote the GIBF missions program. It
was suggested that an article be placed in the Global Baptist Times.
Bro. Webster is still seeking men for the missions advisers, but
that decision has been delayed.
Bro. T.J. Smith promoted the meeting he is hosting in September
of 2004. He reported that Oregon is a mission field. He is grateful
to have the meeting there. He handed out brochures for the meeting.
Brochures for the February 2004 meeting in Lancaster were handed
out.
A sponsor for the February 2005 meeting is still needed.
A report was given for Heartland Baptist Bible College. Opening
days for the fall semester of 2003 featured great preaching. Bro.
Mike Hayes spent two days with the young men. Mrs. Davison, Mrs.
Copes, and Mrs. Jett met with the girls. Wayne Hardy also spoke.
The theme for the year is “Glorify God.” Enrollment
was at 448 which was a 10% increase. The first year classes are
not growing, but retention is growing. Bro. Davison is teaching
the homiletics class. There is a great spirit on the campus, and
a good spirit of cooperation. The city inspectors are holding up
the completion of the dormitory. A report was given on Bro. Worsham.
The doctors are doing nothing more. They have gone as far as they
can. The May offering is continuing to come in.
Bro. Webster announced that there was no more business. The meeting
was dismissed in prayer by Bro. Bill Rench.
Respectfully submitted by:
Pastor Marshall P. Stevens
Secretary of G.I.B.F.
